9/1/10 Message from Sara Gazarek
The project I recorded last year with the German group Triosence will be released tomorrow in Europe!

My last blog discusses how the project came to be (for those of you wondering what the heck I'm talking about)...

We left off with me about to travel to Germany for 3 weeks to rehearse, tour and record with Triosence. It was a really wonderful
and interesting experience working with them as a guest artist. A number of songs on the album feature lyrics I wrote, and some of the tunes just needed a few tweaks here and there.

I'm very interested for people to hear the music - it's pretty different from the music we do with my group, but that's what makes it
all the more fun. :)

We'll keep you posted about when it will be making an appearance in the US (hopefully soon!) but in the meantime, here's a cute little video with more info. The CD is called "Where Time Stands Still" on the Sony/BMG label in Europe.

8.26.09 Attention Southern California Fans!
Hi friends and fans,
I've been spending the last 6 months of my life diligently working on an amazing project, that I finally get to share with you!

Bernhard Schuler (Triosence) of Cologne, Germany, contacted me almost a year ago about writing lyrics to his original music. We've been collaborating since then, and will be recording a CD on the Sony/BMG label in Europe later this year. But before that happens, we're doing rehearsals and concerts in the Southern California area! This week!

Please come share two evenings of wonderful original music (Bernhard Schuler) and original lyrics (me! Sara Gazarek) - and a collaboration from across the globe.

Featuring:
Sara Gazarek, Voice
Bernhard Schuler, Piano
Matthias Nowak, Bass
Stephan Emig, Drums
Vitaliy Zolotov, Guitar

European Jazz with an American Accent  Triosence (GER), featuring Sara Gazarek (USA), with special guest Vitaliy Zolotov (UKR)

Jazz undoubtedly has its deepest roots in America. However, over the years, Europe has embraced and adapted this musical form to develop its own unique voice. The group Triosence, featuring Sara Gazarek, is a result of the fusion of different jazz styles, creating a new take on this musical tradition. With a new album slated for a fall 2010 release (Sony Music Germany), Triosence, featuring Sara Gazarek, aims to bridge language and culture by fusing different aesthetics and styles from the same foundation of jazz into one ambitious collaboration.

By exploring the differences and finding similarities in their respective styles, Triosence  aims to accomplish what is most important in our times — to reach out and find a way to each other.

8.28.07 September Jazz Times Review - Somewhere near the midpoint of Norah Jones and Diana Krall sits Sara Gazarek. Chronologically she is, at age 25, closer to Jones, and echoes her sweet, folk-influenced temperament. But the suggestion of Krall’s rich, disciplined jazz wisdom seems layered atop the Jonesian languor. And there’s something more to Gazarek, a charming peculiarity unique to her. read more>>

7.13.07 All About Jazz Review
On only her second release, vocalist Sara Gazarek is putting out some material that is quite impressive. Wisely eschewing the well worn American Songbook, Gazarek is cherry picking clever songs from the cream of the pop-crop. Paul McCartney's "Junk," for example, is a stellar choice, and it's string-framed arrangement is picture perfect for Gazarek's warm street cabaret voice. Her duet with pianist/arranger Josh Nelson in Billy Joel's "And So It Goes" harkens back to the old hymn "Be Thou My Vision" in terms of solitude and reverence. Her voice here, and on Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" conveys a searching and devout devotion that is rarely conveyed among modern singers. Not content to merely sing a lyric, Gazarek puts her heart on her sleeve, be it whimsical on Joni Mitchell's "Carey," or comforting on the delicately inviting "Northern Lights." Each song has a freshness like a morning light peering through the bougainvillea bushes before hitting penetrating your kitchen window; colorful, but not overpowering. Clear in enunciation, reassuring in tone and guileless delivery, Gazarek is a voice that will follow you for hours after Return To You is over. This is vocal music at its zenith. - George Harris, All About Jazz

7.9.07 Hear What The Press Has to Say About Sara
Sara Gazarek's sophomore album, Return to You, is her follow-up to her 2005 album, Yours, which was filled with American Songbook standards. On Return to You, Gazarek softly covers songs by icons such as folk great Joni Mitchell and the legendary Paul McCartney, but Gazarek makes sure to distinguish her versions from theirs with her signature vocals and sweet timbre. read more>>

Sara Gazarek brings home an upbeat jazz show. Nice 'n' easy does it for Sara Gazarek.
The 25-year-old jazz singer, who started her career in the Roosevelt High School jazz program, celebrated the release of her new album, "Return to You," with a relaxed and upbeat homecoming show at Jazz Alley, the first in a two-night run at the club she has played a number of times since her Roosevelt days. read more>>

Sara Gazarek’s CD Return To You, is about the many moods of love, and explores the many phases of relationships, both heartening and disheartening. Do not make the mistake of thinking that this is a booklet of love songs, for it is not. Instead, the unbelievably gifted jazz vocalist Gazarek brings to the surface our fears, our joys and our insecurities. read more>>

6.24.07 Pittsburgh Tribune Review
... The many directions of jazz are among its greatest features. These three albums show that clearly, with Sara Gazarek's "Return to You" standing out the most. In this disc produced by arranger and bass master John Clayton, she blends folk and roots elements with jazz rhythms and harmonies to create a fresh, bright sound. The album features seven originals, most by her pianist, Josh Nelson. But she also offers outstanding versions of Joni Mitchell's "Carey," Billy Joel's "And So It Goes" and Leonard Cohen's "Shrek" hit, "Hallelujah." Besides a great grip on song, Gazarek also has a marvelous voice. read more>>

Gazarek's Star Rising With "Return to You" If Sara Gazarek's record debut (Yours) was auspicious, her follow-up (Return to You) is audacious. Where Yours presented a prodigious talent applying fresh paint to largely well-worn standards, Return to You takes one risk after another, mixing material from such diverse sources as Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Harry Connick, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney with a handful of original compositions penned by her pianist, Josh Nelson. read more>>
